She was working on composing a heavy-metal opera about Devana, the Slavic goddess of the hunt (similar to Roman Diana and Greek Artemis) when the dark energy meteorite exploded over downtown Pittsburgh. While asleep, her body was transformed, and when she awoke, she discovered that she had been enhanced physically, primarily her strength and fighting skill. Around that time, her brother asked for her help, claiming he was being pursued by Serbian mob enforcers. Dubbing herself Devana the Huntress, Marija donned a leather and spandex costume, went after the mobsters and apprehended them. She then teamed up with crimson-clad heroine Vendetta and defeated the heads of the Italian and Serbian mafias. Subsequently, she joined the Pittsburgh Heroine League, and has been keeping the city safe, wielding her trusty bo staff in battle alongside her superheroine friends and allies.
