History

James's father was a well-known White Supremacist and serial killer. It is said that he had 20 killings under his belt, but after years of not getting caught, was apprehended. He was prosecuted and sentenced to death, and chose the electric chair, as his means of execution.

James was 14 when his father was executed. He blamed the state for taking the side of the lowlifes who, he believed, deserved to be killed. As far as he was concerned, his father had been doing the country a favor.

It didn't take long for James to follow in his father's footsteps. He regularly got into fights with Jewish and black kids in school, until they finally expelled him.

His hate grew, and his crimes became more violent, eventually including murder. He even sought out a black-market scientist to see if he could get something that would give him more of an edge. He allowed himself to be poked and prodded and injected with all kinds of mixed cocktails which, he was led to believe, would give him powers. But they did not.

The so-called scientist did not see it that way. As he pleaded for his life, he told James that he had indeed been changed by these experiments, but that the changes were just not visible. James dismissed him with the firing of his gun.

A few months later, James was apprehended and sentenced to death row for his numerous crimes. He wrote letters to the President, hoping that he would pardon him for his crimes, but heard nothing. He had waved his rights for an appeal, and didn't want to languish for years on death row like his father had, so he asked for a quick execution.
Like his father had, he too chose the electric chair.

The day of his execution, he was led to the chair. He was strapped in and hooked up. As the clergy man came to read his the last rights, he spat in his face.

Then the switch was flicked. The standard 1500 volts flowed through his body, but just then a power spike hit, and the volts shot up even higher. James's body shook and smoked, but something else was happening. The absorbed electricity sparked out of his body and hands.

When the guards hit the emergency shut off switch, the smell of burnt skin and hair filled the room. The doctor walked over to check and make sure he had not survived, only to see James staring back at him with his bloodshot eyes. Sparks came out of them.

James's restraints were gone, burned away from the intense heat. He grabbed the doctor's throat and sent several thousand volts through him. The guards were in shock. They were helpless, not being allowed to bring guns into the room where the execution took place.

James pointed at them, and bolts of electricity flowed from his hands and into their bodies. He escaped, killing several more people on his way out.

When he finally found shelter, James sat down, trying to understand what had happened to him. There was only one explanation for him having survived the execution. The experiments he had undergone had indeed changed him. The electricity had been the catalyst to ignite them. At that moment, he wished he could thank the old scientist, but then, he looked at his face and reconsidered.

It was badly burned, and unrecognizable. His body no less of a mess. He would not be able to blend in without being noticed. So, as he kept hidden, he created a costume that covered his face and gave him protection. He then he set out to find like-minded people whose cause he could join. He had one group in mind, a group he knew wanted more members.

Taking the name Death Charge, he reached out and joined the Confederate States of America.

Powers

Energy/Elemental blast: Death Charge can fire blasts of electricity from his body, but usually directing it from his hands.

Energy absorption: His body can absorb large amounts of electricity.

Flight: He can fly by using the electrical currents in the air, enabling him to attain the speed of light.

Weaknesses: James's body produces its own electricity, but when depleted, it weakens and he grows tired. He then needs to find a new source of electricity to replenish it.
