Part of their celebration was a stunt in space. The plan was to launch two spacecrafts into orbit one day apart from each other. Vlad would be in the first one and upon the second one's arrival, Vlad would spacewalk to the other craft, enter it and return to Earth. Unfortunately for Vlad, that is not what happened that day. When Vlad opened the door to do the spacewalk, the airlock did not decompress correctly, and he was sucked out into space, snapping the safety line that was meant to hold him. Vlad found himself hurling away from both crafts. The pilot of the second craft could only watch as Vlad slowly disappeared from view. Unknown to all, a godlike entity was watching from a distance. This being's name was Black Hole. He was amused at mankind's attempt to walk amongst the stars, though he did feel sorry for the man who was heading towards a sure death. Black Hole intercepted him and took pity on him. Mankind was intriguing, he thought. He needed to learn more about that species, so he offered the man a choice; he could let him die of eventual suffocation, or he could join Black Hole and teach him about humanity. Vlad agreed to join him. Anything was better than dying, he thought. Sadly, he would learn better. Black Hole touched the cosmonaut's body and transferred a small portion of his power. Doing so would make Vlad able to live in the cosmic vacuum. However, Black Hole did not realize that the man and his suit were two different things. Vlad screamed. He could feel the flesh of his body burn, and his muscles turn from flesh to energy. As his suit began to fuse with his body, discharges from his feet and hands burned away parts of it. The tattered rest fused with his body. He no longer felt human, but he returned to Earth to report to his superiors what had happened. His friends in the space program told him that President Brezhnev had known that the mission was not ready and that many malfunctions had been reported, but they were told to proceeded anyway, ignoring the possible danger. Vlad was furious and burst into the President's office, where he found him surrounded by armed soldiers with their guns aimed at him. Vlad could feel energy crackle from his hands, and the soldiers began to fire. As the bullets bounced off of his cosmic energy aura, he raised his arms and fired blasts at the men, killing everyone in the room, including the President. Vlad knew he could no longer stay in the Soviet Union. He flew straight into space and returned to Black Hole's side. He stayed away for years, learning more about his abilities, and exploring the cosmos, until he found himself, once more, in the vicinity of Earth. At the sight of Earth, he became home sick. He entered Earth's atmosphere, but instead of heading to the Soviet Union, he went to America. As he flew above the continent, he was shocked to see someone approach him. Like him, the being was flying under its own power. The being was a female, and she looked somewhat like he did. Her name was Brightmind, a member of a team called, the Commonwealth. She told him that she knew who he was and offered him the chance to return to Earth without fear. Her team would protect him, and he would not be alone anymore. He welcomed the idea. He was tired of being a cosmic cosmonaut. Now, he would simply be, Cosnik. Powers Super strength: Cosnik has the strength to lift in the vicinity of one ton. Energy blast: His body has been filled with cosmic energy, and he can channel that energy in the form of energy beams. Flight: He can fly at speeds that enable him to travel interplanetary distances. Space travel: Cosnik can survive in the vacuum of space. Physical/energy resistance: He has an energy aura that protects him for most forms of damage. Weaknesses: Unknown |
