When she was a little girl, she got terribly sick with a high fever. Due to the lack of medical personnel, many of the indigenous people still relied on shamans to heal them, so her mother took her to one such man. The shaman lived deep in the vast sea ice area, and although the trip to get there was treacherous, they managed and made it with no time to spare. The Shaman told the family that in order to get the fever down, he needed certain ingredients, so he sent the men out to find what he needed. When the men got to the general store, the clerk who worked there knew he did not have all the items. Instead, he gave them a substitute that he grounded into a fine powder, so they would not notice the difference. The clerk's deceit worked. The men brought the items to the shaman, who mixed them in a hurry without really making sure it was what they claimed it was. The potion seemed to work and Tapeesa's temperature began to drop, but it didn't stop dropping. In fact, it became dangerously low, and Tapeesa became unresponsive. It was weeks later when she finally regained consciousness. After her ordeal, she seemed physically fine, but her touch was always cold. She, on the other hand, did not feel cold. In fact, she never felt cold, no matter how low the temperature got. She went off to college, and it was there that her powers began to manifest. She realized that she was able to lower people's body temperature. It was a great way to get back at her stuck-up roommate. Tapeesa would smile inwardly as her roommate struggled with the thermostat, trying to get warm, even in the middle of summer. She sometimes lowered her temperature so much that her roommate would get sluggish, lethargic, and unable to think or move. But her roommate was not the only one to feel Tapeesa's wrath. All those who annoyed her or looked at her the wrong way became her victims, and the campus medical personnel were at a loss to explain this new phenomenon happening throughout the school. This rash of cold spells lasted for years until Tapeesa finished her studies. When she returned home, she was taken aback at the sight that greeted her. The great ice wall near her village was no more. It had stood there for eons and had suddenly broken off, almost taking the village with it. Yet, politicians still denied the existence of Global Warming. This made her angry. She began to work with climate activists to make some changes. A few years later, she was introduced to a person calling himself Knight Panda. He had big plans to make all governments answer for their mistakes and the damage their countries had done. He asked her to join him in his mission. Tapeesa jumped at the chance. She took the name Cold Spell, and joined the Unjust. Powers Energy drain: Cold Spell is able to lower the body temperature of any living thing. Sensory control: The loss of temperature can render her victims incoherent, shiver uncontrollably, and lethargic. Energy resistance: Cold Spell is immune to cold. |
